Judging by the photo, we can tell that, despite its name, this cake is going to be delicious. Its striking appearance makes it perfect for a party or children's afternoon snack. Spettekaka (spigot cake) is one of Sweden's most traditional pastry recipes . It's prepared by cooking it around a spit, hence its name. We're providing you with a homemade version of the recipe.

    Ingredients

    • 250 gr. of butter
    • 5 cups of sugar
    • 5 eggs
    • 5 cups potato or pastry flour
    • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
    • 1 egg white
    • a few drops of vinegar

    1. We preheat the oven to 225 degrees.

    2. We prepare the dough. With an electric mixer, beat the butter and sugar until pale and creamy. Add the eggs one by one as we beat them into the cream. Add the flour and stir little by little until it is integrated and a homogeneous and smooth dough is obtained. We introduce this dough into a pastry bag.

    3. Take a baking tray and cover it with non-stick paper.

    4. We form several donuts of dough on the tray, arranging them separated from each other. It does not matter that they are not of a very similar size, so the spettekaka will come out a little irregular and more artistic.

    5. Bake the donuts for a few minutes so that they solidify and come out dry and crunchy, leaving them to dry on a wire rack as they are ready.

    6. Prepare the glaze by combining the icing sugar with the egg white and vinegar. We stack the donuts, gluing them with glaze.

    7. Once the spettekaka is formed, we bathe it with threads of icing, which we can color.
